A feast of songs and motets by the most famous poet and composer of the 14th century.

This concert is part of Machaut Weekend, a mini festival of events! Passes and single tickets to the full weekend coming soon.

Blue Heron finishes up the season with a three-day festival featuring the poetry and music of 14th-century Europe’s greatest poet and composer, Guillaume de Machaut (d. 1377). Focusing first of all on the courtly chansons that are the heart of his work, sampling his poly-textual motets, singing the celebrated Messe de Notre Dame by candelight in Emmanuel Church’s gothic Lindsay Chapel, and finishing up with a cabaret concert of songs by Machaut and the next generation, the bewitchingly smoky Ars subtilior.
