Behind the Songs: Open Rehearsal

This working rehearsal will give a sneak preview of April’s concert, along with commentary from Scott and the other musicians, and an opportunity to ask questions.

Our Cambridge Subscription Season Concerts are given in the sanctuary at
First Church in Cambridge, Congregational
11 Garden Street (next to the Sheraton Commander).
Masks are required at all times for the health and safety of all
Blue Heron is pleased to be participating in the Card to Culture program, a collaboration between the Mass Cultural Council, Department of Transitional Assistance, WIC Nutrition Program, and the Massachusetts Health Connector, by extending free tickets to EBT, WIC, and ConnectorCare cardholders.
Instructions for claiming a ticket via your card may be found by locating Blue Heron within the full list of participating organizations offering EBT, WIC, and ConnectorCare discounts.

New this season: Concerts will take place on Saturday afternoons at 3:00 pm.
Our December program will be presented three times as usual,
on Friday at 8 pm and Saturday at 3 pm and 8 pm.
Please note: Virtual/streaming concerts are NOT offered this season.

Ockeghem@600 Concert 12: Requiem

One of the master’s most celebrated and mysterious creations, the earliest surviving polyphonic setting of the Requiem Mass, together with motets honoring Ockeghem by Antoine Busnoys and Johannes Lupi.
Christmas in Renaissance Spain

A festive new program of sonorous motets, exuberant villancicos, and comic ensaladas for the Christmas season, with singers, guitars, percussion, and dulcian.
Fortuna & Fama: Josquin’s Missa Fortuna desperata & Dido’s lament

A program we presented for the festival Laus Polyphoniae in Antwerp in 2021, on the themes of Fortune and Fama (rumour, reputation): Josquin’s sunny mass based on the song Fortuna desperata and a group of settings of Dido’s last words, Dulces exuvie, by Josquin, De Orto, Agricola and others.
Ockeghem@600 Concert 13: Missa Mi mi

The final installation in our multi-season traversal of Ockeghem’s complete works, featuring some of his most moving pieces—the Missa Mi mi, the motet Intemerata dei mater, and the song Presque transi—as well as the famous lament for Ockeghem, Nymphes des bois by Josquin Desprez.

Blue Heron will be joined by a pair of outstanding medieval instrumentalists—fiddle player Anna Danilevskaia (Switzerland) and multi-instrumental virtuosa Debra Nagy (Cleveland)—in a program of music connected to the Este and Gonzaga families, circa 1500.
