Blue Heron’s latest CD, Johannes Ockeghem: Complete Songs, Volume I, has been named to the first Bestenliste (Quarterly Critics’ Choice) of 2020 by the prestigious Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik (“German Record Critics’ Award). Established in Germany in 1963 with the aim of setting the “most rigorous standards for supreme achievement and quality” in the field of music recording, the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik is awarded by a jury made up of music critics, writers, musicologists, and editors from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The Bestenliste is widely regarded as a guide to new releases which are outstanding for their quality of interpretation or creativity, or for their value to the repertoire. The CD was also also selected as a Notable Recording of 2019 by Alex Ross of The New Yorker.
