Saturday, February 22, 2020 • 8 PM

First Church in Cambridge, Congregational
11 Garden Street (next to the Sheraton Commander)

A program exploring how Esperance (Hope) teaches the courtly lover to endure the suffering caused by Desire and find delight in the sweet life of Love. Music by Machaut, Galiot, Solage & others, including a complex of interrelated pieces connecting Machaut’s Remede de Fortune to a handful of works in the hypnotic, late 14th-century style known as the Ars subtilior via the anonymous rondeau Esperance qui en mon cuer s’embat.
